ABOUT
Kia ora, I'm Halen Grbich.
I'm 38, a counselling therapist and have worked with clients facing a variety of challenges including those listed above. I'm also a part-time counselling lecturer. My unusual name comes from my parents love for Van Halen.
What is Wellbeing Counselling?
Wellbeing Counselling is an online counselling space where you can unpack any challenges from the comfort of your home.
I take a person-centred approach and believe that you, as the client, are the expert in your life. My role is to listen, provide a safe space, be a guiding presence and to equip you with tools.
I am a provisional member registered with NZAC (New Zealand Association of Counsellors) and hold a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree (Counselling major).
I am flexible with my days/times however, ensure that I see a limited number of clients daily so that my energy and focus is on the client and what they are unpacking in sessions. This ensures quality practice and my competency as a counselling therapist.
I also offer cultural supervision.
As a member of NZAC, I work in accordance with the NZAC Code of Ethics and my work is also guided by the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

My counselling approach is person-centred however, I am familiar with and may also integrate other approaches in sessions which include:

Cultural supervision is a vital aspect of developing professional practice, ensuring ethical and quality care for service users, as well as tangata whai ora accessing mental health services.

What will the first session involve?The first session will involve us getting to know each other, asking and answering questions, information regarding confidentiality as well as your primary reasons for seeking counselling.

How much do sessions cost?Individual Sessions: $90 (60 mins) Individual Sessions (WINZ): Subsidised by WINZ (Inquire for more information) Couples Sessions: $130 (60 mins) Accessing counselling can be expensive which is why we keep costs lower than many other private counselling services. There are also options for those that are struggling financially which include: Funding for sessions which may be available for student's or those on low incomes through WINZ. If you think you may not be eligible for funding, however, are still seeking counselling, you can email or contact us on the home page, we will do our best to work with you and your budget or refer you on to services that may better be able to assist.

How many sessions will I need?This will depend on you, what you are wanting to share and unpack in sessions, the complexity of what's been shared, and also what goals or expectations you have for counselling. Some people may benefit from 6 sessions, while others may need more. Will sessions be confidential?As a member of NZAC (New Zealand Association of Counsellors) I am ethically bound to maintain confidentiality in relation to counselling sessions. Information shared in sessions will remain between the client and the counsellor. There may be limitations to confidentiality which include: - If information you have shared may lead me to believe that you are in danger to yourself or others. - If information you have shared may lead me to believe that you are in danger from others. - If required by the courts. Also, all counsellors in New Zealand must also undertake regular counselling supervision to ensure competency, to be further guided and to grow further in this field. With seeking counselling supervision, there may be instances where information from sessions is shared however, confidentiality will remain, and no personal details of the client will be disclosed.

What if I need to cancel?We understand that sometimes life can create unexpected challenges so if you are unable to make a session due to unforeseen circumstances, this will result in a 100% refund. If this occurs a second and/or third time, we reserve the right to charge for the full session, if notice is less than 48 hours. Preparing for a session takes time and preparation as well as work outside of the session so that we are working in accordance with the NZAC code of ethics and ensuring we are applying appropriate approaches to your specific needs and goals. We ask that you please give at least 48 hours' notice when cancelling or rescheduling an appointment which will ensure that you receive a complete refund. If you will be late to a session, we would appreciate an email, call or text message to let us know. If we wait 10 minutes and you aren't online, we'll attempt contact. If we are unsuccessful, we will cancel the session, and you may be required to pay for the full session. If you join the session late, you will no longer have the hour for the session. You would have the time left.

Payment InformationWhen inquiring about and making an appointment, payment is required before the session. This ensures your appointment is secured. If you did need to cancel or reschedule, please email us within 48 hours for a full refund. If you give less than 24 hours notice regarding cancellation or rescheduling, this will result in no refund.

What online platform do you use for sessions?Wellbeing Counselling uses Google Meet for sessions and once booked, a link will automatically be sent to your email.

Will I be charged extra for going over the allotted session time?Sometimes sessions can run a few minutes overtime which is fine. If the counsellor has sessions back-to-back, sessions will be kept to the allocated time of 60mins. If sessions do run 10mins over the allotted time, an extra charge of $15 will be added to the session. (e.g. If a 60min session turns into a 70min session, there will be an extra charge of $15 on top of the session cost. If the session runs 20mins over the allotted time, a $30 charge will be added to the cost of the session). The counsellor will always aim to wrap up sessions 5-10mins before a session ends, so that the client can share last minute things or ask any questions they may have. There are also options to book in longer sessions as well. If you have any questions regarding this, please email us.

We understand the importance of the client wanting to find the right counselling therapist so we offer a free 10-15 minute phone call or online chat to see if you think we'd be a good fit for each other.
